Guerlain Coup de Foudre Eyeshadow Palette
Guerlain Coup de Foudre Eyeshadow Palette

Guerlain Coup de Foudre Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.25 oz.) is described as “exquisite shades of green, silvery patina, bronze-khaki, [and] vibrant coral.” It is a limited edition palette for spring.

Coup de Foudre #1 is a dirty olive green with a frosted, metallic finish. It had fantastic color payoff and applied really smoothly and evenly. Sephora Snakeskin Dress is darker, more golden. theBalm Lead Zeppelin is darker, smokier. Tarina Tarantino Dandy Lion is more golden, less metallic. bareMinerals Spectacular is browner. Inglot #419 is darker, less green.

Coup de Foudre #2 is a warm-toned, coral-orange with a satin finish. The pigmentation was true-to-pan, and it was finely-milled and velvety to the touch. bareMinerals Smash Hit is matte. Guerlain Terra Azzurra #3 is redder and more frosted. Inglot #361 is a touch redder.

Coup de Foudre #3 is a soft, pastel green with subtle yellow undertones and a frosted finish. It’s not quite mint green, because it’s not cool-toned enough, but it’s not too yellow. It had great color payoff, and it applied beautifully. Cinderella Cinderelly is more satin in finish and less yellow-toned. Tarina Tarantino Wonderful #4 is lighter. Make Up For Ever #34 is warmer, less frosted.

Coup de Foudre #4 is a dark gray with silver and teal shimmer. This color had only so-so pigmentation; it seemed to apply with better payoff when I used it on the eye, but it wasn’t as pigmented as the other shades. Urban Decay Asphalt is darker. Bobbi Brown Gunmetal is cooler-toned, darker. Urban Decay Gunmetal is cooler-toned, bluer.

Coup de Foudre is a nice alternative to softer spring shades that abound during the season.  In fact, I felt a very autumnal vibe from the color combination of this palette.  At a glance, the colors look pretty together but I was uncertain if they would pair as well on the lid as they did in individual pans.  They really do work together, though, and there are a few different combinations that can be created if you only want to use two or three of the four shades.

All four eyeshadows had soft, buttery textures that felt smooth, silky, and finely-milled.  The gray shade wasn’t as pigmented as the rest; not totally sheer but noticeably under-pigmented compared to the other shades and did have some translucency.  A fluffier crease brush seemed to do the trick to get better color payoff out of the color when I used it that way in the look below.  The soft, smooth consistencies made all four shades incredibly easy to blend and apply.  They also looked beautiful on the lid–no emphasis of lines or skin texture–and wore well for a full ten hours, no creasing or fading, without a primer.

Where to Buy: Nordstrom, $59.00

The Glossover

A

The quad consists of eyeshadows that feel as soft and as smooth as you'd ever want, and it presents an interesting color combination. I was able to get great, long-wear out of these without aid of a primer. The gray shade could use more color payoff, though.

Guerlain Champs-Elysees (165) Le Vernis
Guerlain Champs-Elysees (165) Le Vernis

Guerlain Champs-Elysees (165) Le Vernis ($23.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is a bright, warm-toned reddish-coral with a cream finish. L’Oreal The Queen’s Might is slightly lighter and shimmery. Chanel Suspicious is just a smidgen pinker but very close. Cult Nails Evil Queen is redder. Essie Too Hot is redder and warmer. China Glaze Hey Sailor is redder.

There were three major observations I had shortly after applying: 1) it is insanely pigmented–one coat is very nearly opaque (I used two coats, though, but my pinky nail is just one coat); 2) it dried down faster than the average polish; and 3) it has a high, glossy shine. I just wrapped up doing a wear test of this particular shade, and it lasted for a full seven days with very minor tip wear–it seemed to wear even better than Guerlain’s prior nail lacquers that they released last year. I was most impressed by the shine, though, as a cream color like this is typically rather pigmented, but it has such a glossy, plush look to it. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, and the polish did not streak, bubble, or pool along the edges.

Guerlain Cherry Swing (467) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine Review, Photos, Swatches

Guerlain Cherry Swing (467) Gloss d'Enfer Maxi Shine
Guerlain Cherry Swing (467) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine

Guerlain Cherry Swing (467) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine ($30.00 for 0.25 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark pink with subtle cool undertones and plenty of gold and pink shimmer and sparkle. MAC Astral is redder and less shimmery. Korres #54 is similar but less shimmery.

On my lips, it noticeably darkens and turns my lips almost a coral-red-pink with gold and pink shimmer/sparkle. Cherry Swing has semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage; I would describe the underlying base color as semi-sheer but the amount of shimmer and sparkle takes it up to semi-opaque.  The new gloss formula is supposed to be hydrating, have “varying degrees of coverage and pigment intensity,” and gives “lips a shimmering, radiant and plumping finish.” Cherry Swing has a thin, featherweight consistency that’s gel-like and never sticky. For a thin gloss that doesn’t have any tack, it does wear rather well. It’s hydrating, comfortable to wear, and the shimmer and sparkle don’t travel. It has a high-shine finish that gives lips a fuller appearance.

This is really a product you have to try on to appreciate, because it sparkles and shimmers like glistening, shimmering water. If you’re a fan of shimmery lipglosses (think Chanel Glossimers, Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lipglosses, and so on), this shade is right up your alley.  It’s packaged in a long, widened tube with a black cap and a contoured doe-foot applicator. The scent is like Guerlain’s lipsticks–floral. It actually contains more than the average lipgloss (0.20 fl. oz.); and it is 25% more than Guerlain’s Kiss Kiss Gloss (0.20 fl. oz.) (and somehow, it costs $2 less). Just to put it all in perspective, one of the popular sparkling lipglosses is MAC’s Dazzleglass, is one of the worst in terms of value ($333/oz.; this Guerlain gloss is $120/oz.).

Where to Buy: Nordstrom, $30.00 (April 2013)

Guerlain Browny Clap (402) Gloss d'Enfer Maxi Shine
Guerlain Browny Clap (402) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine

Guerlain Browny Clap (402) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine ($30.00 for 0.25 fl. oz.) is a medium brown with very fine white shimmer and subtle warm undertones. Urban Decay Glinda is similar–slightly more metallic. Bobbi Brown Bronzed Heather is darker, more mauve. Revlon Rosegold is more mauve. Dior Intimate Bronze has gold shimmer.

It has semi-opaque color coverage–there’s translucency that allows the natural lip color to come through–but enough color that it hides the majority of my lip freckle. The consistency is thin, non-sticky, and lightweight; it hardly feels like you’re wearing much at all. Browny Clap wears three and a half hours on me, which is shy of my four-hour average. This shade has more of a pearly finish, so it’s not as sparkly/shimmery as Cherry Swing, and it isn’t quite as shiny. The formula is hydrating and always leaves my lips feeling better than they did when I initially applied the gloss.

Where to Buy: Nordstrom, $30.00 (April 2013)

Browny Clap is a very wearable color and will work well on a variety of complexions. I wish it wore a little longer and had a touch more shine.

Guerlain Rouge d'Enfer (121) Le Vernis
Guerlain Rouge d’Enfer (121) Le Vernis

Guerlain Rouge d’Enfer (121) Le Vernis ($23.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is bold, brightened medium red with warm, orange undertones and a cream finish. Cult Nails Evil Queen is cooler-toned. Rescue Beauty Lounge Poppy has a pearly shimmer and is more orange. China Glaze Poinsettia is as warm-toned. Essie Meet Me at Sunset is a touch more orange.

Like Champs-Elysees, Rouge d’Enfer performed extraordinarily well. It applied flawlessly with rich, opaque color in two coats (I used just one on my pinky nail, and it looks opaque there, too). The formula isn’t too thick or too thin, and it flowed well across the nail without streaking, bubbling, or pooling along the edges of the nail. It dried down faster than the average polish, and the resulting finish is incredibly glossy and shiny without a top coat. I’ve only fully tested one shade from the latest release of colors, but I’m in the process of testing another shade (one of the shimmery ones). I had no trouble getting to a full seven days with very minor tip wear (but no chipping) with Champs-Elysees.

Where to Buy: Nordstrom, $23.00

Guerlain Candy Stripe (468) Gloss d'Enfer Maxi Shine
Guerlain Candy Stripe (468) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine

Guerlain Candy Stripe (468) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine ($30.00 for 0.25 fl. oz.) is warm, coral-red with a very dusting of gold pearl (it looks mostly like a cream applied the shimmer is so fine and sparse). Korres Pomegranate is a touch lighter. Revlon papaya is pinker but similar. MAC Geo Pink has more shimmer. Revlon Strawberry is pinker. Hourglass Nectar is brighter. MAC Viva Glam Cyndi is lighter. Illamasqua Mistress is brighter and bolder.

It had semi-opaque color coverage with some translucency. Candy Stripe applied evenly and smoothly, and it didn’t settle into lip lines because it has such a thin consistency. The gloss feels thin, nearly weightless, and non-sticky. It lasted for four hours well, which is about average. It feels almost gel-like when it’s on, and it has slip, but it doesn’t slide around. My lips, consistently, feel more hydrated after wearing one of Guerlain’s new glosses, and Candy Stripe was no exception. They have a floral-like scent and come in a flat, clear tube with a slanted doe-foot applicator. It has good shine but not quite enough glossiness that it gives lips a fuller appearance.

Where to Buy: Nordstrom, $30.00

Guerlain Moyen Brunettes (05) Terracotta Four Seasons Bronzer Review, Photos, Swatches

Guerlain Moyen Brunettes (05) Terracotta Four Seasons Bronzer
Guerlain Moyen Brunettes (05) Terracotta Four Seasons Bronzer

Guerlain Moyen Brunettes (05) Terracotta Four Seasons Bronzer ($75.00 for 0.35 oz.) is medium-dark tan brown with warm undertones and a mate finish. It is the second darkest shade of the Terracotta range (Ebony #08 is the darkest). Burberry Summer Glow is lighter, more yellow. Urban Decay Toasted is darker, redder-toned. MAC Tan Tint is similar but a cream product.

The Four Seasons bronzer range contains “four wonderfully matte shades to blend together to match every desire,s kin, or season for an authentic tan.” The idea is that you can blend the shades together, as needed, for as much bronze as you desire in a particular moment. The powder is soft, velvety smooth, and finely-milled–but not at all powdery–and it blends fairly well. The color payoff is very true-to-pan, and depending on which shades you emphasize, it can be lighter or darker, but it is nicely pigmented so if you are light to light-medium, I’d recommend using a light hand initially.  Moyen Brunettes lasted eight hours when I tried it, and there was no fading or patchiness at that point. I think this is best suited for true medium to dark complexions with warm and olive undertones–it has a reddish-tan undertone that should work well for these skin tones.  I love the texture, payoff, and wear of this bronzer–but it’s definitely not the right shade for my complexion and would look better on someone else!

Where to Buy: Nordstrom, $75.00

Guerlain Terra Ora Sculpting Powder & Contrast Highlighter
Guerlain Terra Ora Sculpting Powder & Contrast Highlighter

Guerlain Terra Ora Sculpting Powder & Contrast Highlighter ($72.00 for 0.56 oz.) is described as a “plearly white gold” and “matte beige.” The center shade is a lightened gold with warm, yellowy undertones and a frosted shimmer. bareMinerals The Shining Moment is darker. Chanel Routes des Indes is yellower. Guerlain Terracotta in the Sun is slightly yellower and more metallic. The outer ring is a light-medium orange tan with a satiny sheen–it didn’t look quite matte to me, even after trying to brush away at it. MAC Double Definition is a bit darker and browner. Illamasua Writhe is a stronger gold sheen. Swirled together, you end up with a golden, medium orange-tan with a soft, frosted sheen. Chanel Sable Beige is browner. Urban Decay Gilded is darker. NARS Satellite of Love is slightly darker and more sparkly.

I applied the center shade as a highlighter on the top of my cheekbone, while then applying the bronzer shade below the cheekbone and slightly below to contour. The highlighter is very similar to my skin tone, but it seemed to be true-to-pan in color though slightly translucent. The bronzing shade had good color payoff and applied smoothly on the skin. Both shades had a soft, velvety feel with a finely-milled texture that made it easy to blend the powder on the skin. I noticed a very, very slight emphasis of the skin’s natural texture with the highlighter shade. Terra Ora wore well for seven and a half hours, and after eight, there was a little fading. The powder comes in a wooden compact with a magnetic closure, and it has a powdery, floral scent that’s moderate in strength.

This is best suited for light to medium skintones with warm undertones. It has a really soft, finely milled texture that blends well on the skin.

Guerlain Terra Nerolia Tan-Enhancing Bronzer Review, Photos, Swatches

Guerlain Terra Nerolia Tan-Enhancing Bronzer
Guerlain Terra Nerolia Tan-Enhancing Bronzer

Guerlain Terra Nerolia Tan-Enhancing Bronzer ($69.00 for 0.67 oz.) is described as a mix of “shimmering peach, bronze, and gold shades.” The center ring is a warm-toned, peachy orange with a nearly matte finish. NARS Sex Appeal is lighter and pinker. MAC Cream Soda is similar but slightly pinker (not as orange). MAC My Highland Honey is darker and more orange. The outer ring is a medium-dark tan brown with a satiny finish. MAC Double Definition is browner with a stronger sheen. Burberry Summer Glow is very similar. Wet ‘n’ Wild Carnival in Rio is darker.

When I was playing with the product, the gold shimmer seemed like an over-spray, so I dusted it away with a large, fluffy brush, and the majority of it disappeared. There were some residual shimmer particles that remained over the entire surface, but after scraping away some of the bronzer shade later on, it looked nearly matte.

I applied the center color like a blush onto the apples of cheeks, and then I applied the darker, bronzer shade as more of a contour and darkening shade. The center shade had good color payoff, but it’s the kind of color that is going to show up better on fairer complexions than mine–if you mix it as a way to lighten or soften the darker ring of color, the combination would show up on medium skin tones.

The darker color also had good pigmentation, and it can be lightened by mixing it with the center shade. The powder as a whole had a smooth, velvety feel–very finely-milled and blendable without being powdery. Terra Nerolia wore eight hours well on me, and then after nine hours, there was some light fading. This powder is heavily scented with Guerlain’s tiare flower scent (like the Terracotta line), which is a very strong floral fragrance to me. I don’t smell it as much when it is applied, but it wafts from the compact quite noticeably. This is also a huge compact filled with bronzer, so it will last you quite awhile (maybe a lifetime?).

Where to Buy: Nordstrom, $69.00 (June 2013)

The Glossover

A

If you prefer more natural and matte finishes to your bronzers, you'll like Terra Nerolia's finish, which is mostly matte (especially after a few swipes to remove the over-spray) but not powdery or chalky. Both shades are true-to-pan and have a lovely, silky texture that makes them easy to blend and diffuse on the skin.

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir (463) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine Review, Photos, Swatches

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir (463) Gloss d'Enfer Maxi Shine
Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir (463) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir (463) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine ($30.00 for 0.25 fl. oz.) is a pink-mauve with gold shimmer. MAC Comfort & Joy has more shimmer, so it appears a bit lighter and more mauve. Bobbi Brown Naked Plum is darker, more plum.

The color is very similar to my natural lip color, so when applied to my lips, it brightens, emphasizes the pink tones, and adds shimmer while not altering the overall color too much. If you look at my lip freckle, you’ll notice that it’s actually rather hidden–there’s a hint of it coming through, so I’d classify this as a semi-sheer to semi-opaque gloss.  Guerlain described the pigmentation of the formula to vary from sheer to more opaque, which means it’ll depend on the shade.

The consistency is very lightweight with a gel-like texture that’s non-sticky and doesn’t slide around. La Petite Robe Noir lasted for three and a half hours, which is on the longer end for such a thin gloss, but about average for gloss (in my experience) overall. It was hydrating, though, and it’s definitely one of the more hydrating glosses I’ve tried. The gloss has a light floral scent and comes in a clear, flat tube with a doe-foot applicator.

Where to Buy: Nordstrom, $30.00

Guerlain Gold Tchlack (400) Gloss d'Enfer Maxi Shine
Guerlain Gold Tchlack (400) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine

Guerlain Gold Tchlack (400) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine ($30.00 for 0.25 fl. oz.) is a pale gold with champagne and gold sparkle. L’Oreal Something Shiny is very similar. MAC Satin Slip has more peach-colored shimmer. Bobbi Brown Canary is a darker gold (more orange, less champagne) and much higher in shimmer content.

The base is virtually colorless (there is a yellowish tinge, but it’s hard to see it, especially once applied to lips) and then a moderate amount of sparkle and shimmer. This shade felt like it had more sparkle with less shimmer, so as the gloss wore away, I could feel a few of the sparkles. It has a thin, non-sticky consistency feels incredibly lightweight on, so it’s comfortable wear and doesn’t slide around. This shade lasted just over two hours on me, which is shorter on wear than I expected and as compared to other shades I’ve tried in the range.

I don’t expect this one to turn heads; anyone who really loves the formula or who has longed for a sheer/clear gloss with some shimmer but not all shimmer may want to consider this, but if you’re thinking about splurging on one or two shades from the range, I’d recommend one of the more unique shades in the range.

Guerlain Tangerine Vlam (441) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine

Guerlain Tangerine Vlam (441) Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine ($30.00 for 0.25 fl. oz.) is a bold, medium-dark orange with warm, red undertones and a hint of gold shimmer. MAC Ablaze is redder, brighter. MAC Electric Edge is a smidgen darker. MAC Riviera Life is more shimmery. MAC Morange is brighter.

If you were crossing your fingers that some of the shades in the new formula were going to be opaque, you’re in luck–this one is very nearly opaque with just a smidgen of translucency. The gloss has such a thin, non-sticky texture that still spreads really well, so the color still applies evenly and with good color payoff. Tangerine Vlam lasted for five and a half hours on me, which is better than the average gloss (four hours). It never turns sticky, and it’s nicely hydratnig and always leaves my lips feeling better after than they did when I first applied.

The Glossover

It's nearly featherweight, non-sticky, and had mostly opaque color--something that is hard to find in a gloss. It's also long-wearing and hydrating!

Guerlain Gemma Vernis Nail Lacquer
Guerlain Gemma Vernis Nail Lacquer

Guerlain Gemma Vernis Nail Lacquer ($23.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is a warm, yellow-toned medium pink with white pearl. OCC Femme is a bit lighter. MAC Snob is a cream. MAC Silly is lighter, not as warm-toned, no shimmer. MAC Comic Cute is darker, no shimmer. MAC Angel is a cream. See comparison swatches.

Gemma was opaque in two coats, and it applied evenly and smoothly without bubbling or streaking. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, so it spread out well. It has an almost metallic-like shimmer, but it’s not a strong metallic. You can see faint threads of the shimmer in the polish, and I noticed very, very faint brush strokes that were visible at certain angles with a lot of light, and only if I held my nails close to my face could I actually see them. It dried to a high gloss finish, and you could skip a top coat as a result. I’ve been getting a week of wear out of Guerlain’s formula without chipping and only very minor tip wear.

It's one of the better-applying metallic finished polishes I've come across, as the brush strokes are very, very faint. I think the wider brush helps the application, as you can get better one-pass color so you maneuver the brush less across the nail.

Guerlain Nahema Vernis Nail Lacquer
Guerlain Nahema Vernis Nail Lacquer

Guerlain Nahema Vernis Nail Lacquer ($23.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is a rich, warm-toned red with a cream finish. MAC Vivid Effect is slightly lighter and less orange. MAC Oriele Orange is similar. MAC Kid Orange is very similar. MAC Ablaze is a smidgen darker. Rescue Beauty Lounge Poppy is slightly redder and has fine shimmer. China Glaze Life Preserver is similar. Essie Meet Me at Sunset is redder/darker. See comparison swatches.

Nahema is fully opaque in two coats of polish, though it was nearly opaque in just one.  The wider brush (similar to Dior’s) makes it easy to apply, because it spans the whole nail well.  I didn’t have any issues with streaking, bubbling, or the polish pooling along the edges, as the consistency was slightly thin but not watery.  It dried down to a high gloss finish, so no top coat is necessary (but a top coat can still be used if desired).  I get just over a week of wear with very minor tip wear with Guerlain’s formula.

The brush was wonky–like the plastic had melted outside of the mold, because it was curved and bumpy. I’m going to be exchanging this next time I’m at Nordstrom because of the defect, but I haven’t had this issue with any of the other shades I’ve purchased.  Since I haven’t had this issue with any of the other shades I bought (like seven of them or so), I didn’t let this defect impact the rating as it appears to be a one-off.

Guerlain Cuivre Ora Iridescent Loose Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches

Guerlain Cuivre Ora Iridescent Loose Eyeshadow
Guerlain Cuivre Ora Iridescent Loose Eyeshadow

Guerlain Cuivre Ora Iridescent Loose Eyeshadow ($35.00 for 0.02 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark copper with a frosted, metallic finish. NARS California is browner. MAC Star Myth is very similar. MAC In the Sun is darker, browner. MAC Red Hot Copper is slightly redder. MAC Brasuh is slightly more orange. Le Metier de Beaute Innocence is redder. See comparison swatches.

The color is gorgeous, and the payoff is rich and intense–a little goes a long way–and it is incredibly finely-milled so it applies smoothly and evenly while being easy to blend. It lasted a full nine hours without creasing or fading. My issue with the project is the horrible packaging. It’s the same type of packaging that bareMinerals uses for their High Shine Eyecolors, and the problem is that as you unscrew the cap, it nearly springs open, and so much product gets loosened and pulled out with the sponge-tip applicator along the rim as well as just strewn outside of the tube.  Trying to apply with the sponge-tipped applicator is messy and ends up using a lot of product that you just don’t need.  I use a separate eyeshadow brush and lightly pat it against the applicator to get only as much as I need, and this also allows for more precise and controlled application.

It’s one of the worst types of packaging I’ve ever come across, and it was so disappointing to see Guerlain opt for this. I think the packaging is so poor and wasteful that on that alone, I wouldn’t purchase it–with a mere 0.02 oz. of product for $35, there’s not much to waste. (And it’s a shame, because there’s one other shade, which looks far more interesting/less dupable, but the packaging is making it so hard to pull the trigger.)  There’s no packaging-specific component for the Glossover any more, but I do take into account packaging that actually affects the overall quality of the product or application.

Guerlain Super Aqua-Serum Light Wrinkle Plumper Review & Photos

Guerlain Super Aqua-Serum Light Wrinkle Plumper
Guerlain Super Aqua-Serum Light Wrinkle Plumper

Guerlain Super Aqua-Serum Light Wrinkle Plumper ($165.00 for 1.6 fl. oz.) is supposed to hydrate skin while minimizing the appearance of wrinkles. According to Guerlain, after 30 hours, 72% hydration and 27% reduction in wrinkles were apparent. It is also supposed to be a lighter version (in terms of texture) of their Super Aqua-Serum, so it is more suitable for normal to combination skin types.

In the late spring and summer, my skin tends to be closer to normal than normal-to-dry (just as in the winter, it is drier rather than normal), so I reached for this when I needed something in the evening. I liked it a lot, and a lot of what I loved came from two things: 1) the fine lines around my eyes (which are, at present, my “major” signs of aging) look softer the next morning after using this on a consistent basis, and 2) the texture is incredibly lightweight and thin but not watery or runny. The texture is thin, like a lotion, and absorbs very quickly (within a minute of applying).

It is actually very hydrating–so hydrating that I really didn’t need to use a moisturizer afterwards, but you may find you can stretch a bottle further by using and applying it as a serum (so less, or only on some areas) and following up with moisturizer. I also tried it as more of as-needed product for near fine lines, around my nose, and the tops of my cheeks (all areas I tend to be a bit drier), and it worked nicely as a spot hydrator.  It doesn’t top my go-to for dry spots, but Guerlain’s has a nicer texture and faster absorption (and will work better under makeup).  It has a floral fragrance–not the strongest I’ve come across, but it’s not light; it’s on par with Guerlain’s skincare range in general and strong enough that there is a lingering scent even after it has absorbed.

The benefits last about as long as you keep using the product, but it’s not correcting signs of aging, just camouflaging them by “plumping” the lines so they look less visible.  It worked well for me, and it did all the things it was supposed to, and it did them with a really lovely, quick-absorbing texture while still delivering great hydration.  That being said, a good smoothing primer (usually something with silicones in it) can also work well for smoothing out fine lines–at least for a few hours (as compared with a day or so with this). While I liked it, I’m not sure it’s the one and will continue to see what else is out there before committing to this price point. (I’m also not very bothered by the fine lines I do have, so naturally, I’m less inclined to pay a lot to minimize something I don’t notice often.)

Guerlain Noir Volcanique (01) Khol Me Kajal Eyeliner
Guerlain Noir Volcanique (01) Khol Me Kajal Eyeliner

Guerlain Noir Volcanique (01) Khol Me Kajal Eyeliner ($37.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a mostly matte, medium-dark black with neutral undertones.  It’s slightly darker than the average black eyeshadow but not as intense as the blackest black eyeliners–see comparison swatches. It doesn’t seem creamy initially, but the pencil tip glides across skin evenly and smoothly without dragging or skipping. One single pass delivered quite a bit of product, and of course, going back and forth yielded fully opaque color. It applied really well to the waterline, as well as the lash line. When worn on the water line, it lasts between six and eight hours for me (six being if my eyes are somewhat watery). On the lower lash line, it lasted eight to ten hours well and had some slight smudging after ten hours of wear.

If it’s any comfort to your wallet, you’re getting almost twice as much as your standard pencil eyeliner (0.04 oz., and this is 0.07 oz.). Guerlain says it can be used as an eyeshadow, too, if desired. It comes as a long, tapered tip with a widge base, and really, my big concern with this product is how easy it will be to used as you wear down the tip, because it’s not a pencil you can use in your normal pencil sharpener.

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Nail Lacquer
Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Nail Lacquer

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Nail Lacquer ($23.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is a subtly warm-toned, beige with brown and mauve tones and a metallic, champagne shimmer. OCC Kava Kava is lighter, yellower. Chanel Peche Nacree was warmer, more peach. Rescue Beauty Lounge Ani was less pigmented, lighter. Zoya Shay was less metallic, lighter. See comparison swatches.

It was quite pigmented, and nearly one coat was almost opaque but produced an interesting semi-opaque result (I applied only one coat on my pinky nail for reference) that some may like. The color itself was more unique than not, which is something that made me really want to like it, but there were so many visible brush strokes that I found the finish to be more distracting as a result. The brush strokes were also the type that go wonky easily, so they’re not uniform or in a straight line (and Guerlain’s brush is fairly wide, so that should have helped). The consistency was just slightly thick but not really problematic. I’ve been getting a week of wear with Guerlain’s formula with very minor tip wear.
